BAND PRO MEETS MARVIN
Band Pro Munich GmbH, Munich, Germany and Band Pro Film & Digital, Inc., Burbank, California announce a new sales and distribution agreement with MARVIN Technologies. The MARVIN camera data management system is a creation of director Dutch Maarten Treurniet, designed to make dealing with data files simple and safe as possible. Band Pro will provide MARVIN sales and distribution in Europe and North America.
MARVIN automates many of the time-consuming tasks that arise from working with the massive amounts of data created in modern digital cinematography, while protecting against some of the most common data management errors.
When shooting with a RED, a full CF card or RED drive is removed from the camera and connected to MARVIN. From there everyone goes back to work while MARVIN does the heavy lifting. The camera data files are immediately downloaded as clips to MARVIN's internal 6TB RAID 5 drive (12 TB optional). Once the data has been saved, it is automatically backed up to dual LTO3 drives (LTO4 optional). It then creates a “dailies” DVD in PAL or NTSC format, as well as DNxHD and Quicktime proxies for offline editing. The resulting Edit Decision List (EDL) can be used with “Marvin in Post” software to simplify ingest in post production.
Treurniet is currently using a production model MARVIN on the Dutch mini-series he is directing, Lijn 32. “The idea of the MARVIN is one thing,” said Treurniet, “but when you put it to use on a real production, you experience the difference it makes in your work.”

Originally designed to deal with the R3D files generated by RED cameras, MARVIN also supports the Silicon Imaging SI-2K, ARRI D21/Alexa, Panasonic P2, as well as high-speed cameras such as the Vision Research Phantom and Weisscam HS-2.
